John 1:14 (Final Post)

“full of grace and truth.”

“FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH”. We end the week with the final words of John 1:14. Powerful words! He, Jesus, the Word, was full of grace and truth. He was the perfection of a servant’s heart, benevolent, and lead by the Father to heal the sick and broken. He was the perfection of truth, spending His time indiscriminately with all who would listen to declare the truth. False prophets preceded Him and false prophets have followed Him and dwell among us today, but Jesus was and is the way, the truth, and the life.

I hope you will take time today to soak in these words. Put these final words in the context of the complete verse -“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14

“who came from the Father”

John reiterates that Jesus came from the Father. He was sent on a rescue mission, a mission to free the captives, a mission to deliver the truth, a mission to show God’s unbridled love. God had a plan. He had a plan to send His son on the ultimate rescue mission for man. God sent the Son to execute the perfect, sacrificial mission to reconcile us back to Him.

Today as you reflect on these words, is there a rescue mission that needs to be executed in your life? Is there someone in your life that needs a rescue? Do you need a rescue? Jesus is still on assignment, performing rescue missions in the lives of those who are broken. He’s waiting on your assignment if you will seek Him through your prayer and worship.

John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We took a break for a couple of days, but now we are going to get right back with our study. Hopefully, you have the first sentence of this verse committed to memory – “THE WORD BECAME FLESH AND MADE HIS DWELLING AMONG US.” More importantly, I hope you have taken some time to reflect on the meaning of this first sentence.

Now we look at the first part of the second sentence – “WE HAVE SEEN HIS GLORY”. Imagine for a moment what it must have been like for the disciples and the followers of Christ to “have seen His glory”! They were in His presence. They were communing with the Son. They were experiencing His essence. Wow! Think about it. In the 2,000 years since Christ has there been anyone else who has left a stronger impact on humanity? His name is renowned despite the world’s attempts today and over the ages to remove it from the lexicon.  Consider the words below from the Scottish theologian James Stewart, who wrote this over 100 years ago to describe how Christ and His message overcame the evil of the world:

It is a glorious phrase – “He led captivity captive.”

The very triumphs of His foes, it means, He used for their defeat. He compelled their dark achievements to subserve His end, not theirs. They nailed Him to the tree, not knowing that by that very act they were bringing the world to His feet. They gave Him a cross, not guessing that He would make it a throne. They flung Him outside the gates to die, not knowing that in that very moment they were lifting up all the gates of the universe, to let the King come in. They thought to root out His doctrines, not understanding that they were implanting imperishably in the hearts of men the very name they intended to destroy. They thought they had defeated God with His back to the wall, pinned and helpless and defeated: they did not know that it was God Himself who had tracked them down. He did not conquer in spite of the dark mystery of evil. He conquered through it.

John 1:14 “The Word became flesh”

John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Wow! This verse gets me excited! In the preceding verses leading up to John 1:14, John sets the stage. We now know the words of John 1:1;  John 1:2 says -“He was with God in the beginning”; John 1:3 – “Through Him all things were made”; John 1:4 – “In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind”. Then he tells us about the one that would precede Him, John the Baptist, who came to testify of that light. He tells us the world did not recognize Him and did not receive Him. And then, get ready for it, he leads in with the words of hope for all of us in John 1:12-13 – “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” Wow again!! We are children of God!

Now we reach our verse, and the opening statement we will focus our prayer on today – “The Word became flesh“. I hope these words fire you up! Let’s meditate on the magnitude of those words today.

Happy Friday!  Jim

John 1:1

“AND THE WORD WAS GOD”

Now we look at the final statement in John 1:1 – “AND THE WORD WAS GOD”. Let’s put this verse together: “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD” – “AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD” – “AND THE WORD WAS GOD”. Today I want us to dwell on the progression of the statements in John 1:1:

“IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD” – It always was, it always is, and always will be.

“AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD” – The co-existence we studied yesterday.

“AND THE WORD WAS GOD” – The oneness of the spirit.

I’m excited to have our new members join our journey with us! As I said last night, if you will take time each day to meditate on the portion of the verse we study each day, you will place the verse on your heart and you will have committed a new verse of God’s Word to memory. Use these words to replace any negative thoughts or worries during the day.   We have about sixteen weeks left in 2016, so we should learn sixteen verses by January 1st.

Along the way, if God speaks to you about a particular verse, use the comment option below to share it with us. As I have said before, I sure haven’t figured it all out yet, and I’m learning along the way with you.

John 1:1

“AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD”

Today we look at the next part of the verse – “AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD”. We have a conjunctive word “AND” at the beginning, tying the previous part of the verse – “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD”. The word “and” may not be particularly riveting, but in this sentence I get excited!  The “and” clearly implies that the Word or the spirit of Jesus was always with God, even at the “beginning” (Genesis 1:1). It foundationally lays out the Father and the Son were there together in the creation of the heavens and the earth.

As we learned in Romans 12:2 – “BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND”, our daily focus, even if only for a few minutes, on these words is transforming us. God reveals Himself through these words and we glean a deeper understanding of His perfection, His perfect love for us, and a greater sense of our purpose in serving Him. If these words speak to you, as they have to me, I encourage you to embrace what you hear God speaking to you and begin to walk it out in your daily life. You are a bright light to me and a blessing to me. Share that light with the people in your life and be a blessing. If this Bible verse study has been a positive part of your day, do you know others who would also benefit from learning God’s word? If so, share the link to this site. I hope we can begin adopting a new mindset -“We will leave no one behind.”

John 1:1 and 1:14 – “The Word Became Flesh”

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word,  and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We are staying in the Gospel of John for our next verses; John 1:1 and John 1:14. The opening of the Book of John is nothing short of magnificent! I would love for us to commit the first 18 verses to memory, but I want us to keep moving through the Bible. So I encourage you to read the first 18 verses of John to appreciate the power of God’s word in the verses we are going to focus on over the next few days.

The Bible is an incredible tapestry of stories and individual verses that allow us to explore the individual weaves of the fabric that take us deeper and deeper into the wonder of God. We are now going down a strand of the fabric from Jesus’s declaration in John 14:6 to a deeper understanding of the essence of Christ.

Let’s begin our study and memorization with the opening of John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word”. Pray over these words today. Any coincidence to the words “In the beginning”? I know you are way ahead of me here, but take time to let those words soak into your soul.
